The experimental short film Di notte/ At night (2025, 6’, 16mm film transferred onto digital support, work in progress) by Swiss artist  Anouk Chambaz (Lausanne, 1993) will be presented on Thursday 20 February 2025 at 6:30 pm at Kinemax in Gorizia. Chambaz was invited by Altreforme for an artist residency aimed at the production of a new work.

It’s almost night on the mountain. A solitary car moves along the road. The driver starts singing a strange lullaby…

Di notte/ At night  is the story of a twilight journey through the woods in Gorizia’s mountains. It is a film about the space between things: between darkness and light, sleep and wakefulness, the unknown and what is familiar,  memory and imagination, anguish and tenderness. A melody floats over such a sinuous border.

Mind the Border is a project of artist residency revolving around the region of Gorizia/Nova Gorica, both of which have been designated as European Capitals of Culture for 2025. It was conceived with the aim of investigating, through the lens of art, this geographical border, not intended as a limit of separation between two national identities—the Italian and the Slovenian—but as a place of encounter and permanent coexistence for people coming from many different countries in the world. From this point of view, Gorizia embodies a unique and special dimension—with its history marked by ethnic, linguistic, religious, and global complexity—which can become the emblem for global situations. Mind the Border aims at representing such a complexity in a poetical rather than documentary way, establishing an itinerary of relations and representations that are respectful of diversity, yet also descriptive of what brings people together: their belonging to the human species.

Mind The Border is ideated and produced by Altreforme and funded by Regione FVG, Io Sono Friuli Venezia Giulia, in collaboration with Casa Netural, Associazione ETRARTE, Agorè, Young for Fun, Cinemazero, Visionario, Kinemax and the University of Nova Gorica School of Arts.
