Christian Fogarolli is an Italian artist born in 1983. In 2010 he completed a specialization course in the study, diagnostics and restoration of ancient, modern and contemporary paintings at the University of Verona (Master Universitario Dentro l’immagine. Nuove metodologie e tecniche scientifiche di diagnostica non invasiva per la conservazione dei dipinti antichi e contemporanei – I livello – FSE) and obtained a Master’s degree in Conservation of Cultural Assets at the University of Trento.
Fogarolli’s research focuses on the relationship between the arts and scientific knowledge, with particular attention on those fields of science which have unconsciously made use of artistic tools in order to advance and reach their own objectives. For this reason, Fogarolli’s artistic process often makes use of the instruments of historical and archival research and of varied artistic means. His works analyse the dynamics of perception of the image and of the object in relation to subjectivity, and investigate the deep anthropological, scientific and therapeutic convictions of a given society. His works draw attention to the relationship between the ideas of normality and deviance, and the relationships among different species and how they are categorised within public and private heritage, which he is trying to trace, analyse and enhance with his own art.
Christian Fogarolli has exhibited his works in several national and international contexts, such as dOCUMENTA(13), with the presentation of the Lost identities project, the Mart in Rovereto, the 54° Biennale di Venezia, Galleria Civica di Trento, La Maison Rouge in Paris, the de Appel arts centre of Amsterdam, the fifth Moscow International Biennale, the Hunterian Museum of Glasgow, the Gayté Lyrique of Paris, the Haus der Kulturen der Welt in Berlin, the Hrdlicka Museum of Man in Prague, and so on. Recently, Fogarolli has been awarded research scholarships and artist residencies at the College of Physicians and Mütter Museum of Philadelphia and at the Futura Center for Contemporary Art in Prague.
